Our Program

Our high-quality early childhood education program ensures that your chidl will be ready for Kindergarten and beyond.  Community Day Nursery meets the high standards set by NAEYC that ensure your child will be safe, healthy, and will learn each and every day.

Our Classes

Each of Community Day Nursery’s eight classrooms is a multi-age group of fifteen three and four year olds.  Classes are led by a certified teacher and a teacher assistant.

Our teachers are well-trained in early childhood.  They build caring relationships with each child, and plan activities that are fun and challenging.  Ongoing assessment ensures that children continue to learn and develop.

 Teachers

All teachers at Community Day Nursery hold at least a Bachelor’s degree, and teacher assistants have at minimum a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.  Several teachers and teacher assistants are bilingual and speak Spanish or Creole.

Ongoing professional development is essential for the growth of our teachers.  They have opportunities to work and plan together, attend trainings both in and out of district, and take part in other professional activities including early childhood conferences.   All teachers are members of the New Jersey Chapter of NAEYC.  They receive the support and guidance of our administration and work with the Master Teachers from the East Orange School District.

Our Curriculum
1. Our "Curiosity Corner" curriculum engages 3- and 4-year-olds in literacy-focused, problem-solving activities. Your child's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional growth is promoted with a strong emphasis on language development.

2. Using the award-winning "Second Step" violence prevention program, we're able to teach your child vital social skills like empathy, emotion management, problem solving, and cooperation. These essential life skills help your child in the classroom and at home.

3. Nutritious meals are freshly prepared in our kitchen daily, helping your son or daughter learn the importance of healthy food choices. Your child also learns to be physically active by playing outdoors every day.
