Community Day Nursery is a nonprofit early childhood program offering a high quality full day preschool education to the children of East Orange. We are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Community Day Nursery has been serving children and their families since 1897.

Mission Statement
It is the mission of Community Day Nursery to provide children with a safe, supportive, stimulating environment in which their potential for emotional, intellectual, social, and physical development is nurtured. We want to strengthen a cooperative partnership with families through a variety of parenting services and group activities.

Philosophy
In order to provide a sound program for young children, one must first provide a sound program for the adults working with them. No attitudes or approaches can apply to children if they cannot be equally applicable to the teaching staff. Therefore, Community Day Nursery concerns itself with the needs of the young and adults alike.

1. In providing an atmosphere conducive to the development of mutual trust and respect.

2. In maintaining an environment that fosters intellectual and creative freedom to develop
    chlidren's abilities and help them pursue their interests.

3. That education is a flexible and individual process geared toward the needs of each child,
    resulting from a natural outgrowth of positive emotional and social development.

4. In establishing a close rapport with families by providing open communication and supportive
    services. Such dialogue enhances the concept that all change and learning can become
    integrated into the child's total life experience.
